The Meaning of the Cross & the Last Words of Christ | 4.The Ultimate Victory | p-r D. Luchev

In this short seminar p-r Dimitar Luchev explains why did Jesus, the Son of God, had to die and in what way are we to understand the crucifixion as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Pastor Luchev demonstrates that very often Christians hold on to very primitive, outdated theories of the atonement and forget the fact that Christ was in fact a “victim” of human violence (religious and civil), not a sacrifice required by a blood thirsty God. Looking at the cross through the lenses of the only Old Testament ritual that provided an atonement of collective sins – the rite of Atonement in the day of Yom Kippur, p-r Luchev shows us that Christ is not only to be understood as the goat that was offered “unto the Lord”, but at the same time as the “scapegoat”, which was loaded with the sins of the people and chased into the desert. On the cross, Christ gains ultimate victory over the evil powers that drive the world (both human and angelic) by allowing them to kill him, thus exhausting themselves. What Jesus had to say from the cross is also important, because His last words become a message to the broken world and the hope of all who will embrace Him as Saviour.
